Hi everyone! I think this is my first post not only on FFXIV Reddit, but on Reddit in general, but I wanted to write something about my experience over the last month.
I played the game until Heavensward 3.1, I think, but left since I barely played that month. I had a lot of work, moved to other games, and I felt like I was wasting money on a subscription I wasn't using. After that ( I don't know why ) but the idea of a subscription started to bother me. Living in Latin America, the price means a lot more since our economy kinda sucks.
I work for myself and sadly my work took a downfall (the global economy and AI really impacted it sadly) so my disposable income for gaming was reduced a lot.
Fast forward to the last Steam sale: as always, I saw Dawntrail on discount and felt like wanting to come back to the game. I really loved my time there. I started looking at posts about raids released since I left, new stuff, especially fashion, and I was like, "Dude, I want that." But then a voice in my head said, "subscriptioooooon," so I decided to take time until the sale ended to think about it.
And then it hit me like a truck. I realized I was an Idiot. Why? Because I had been spending money on different games in the form of battle passes here and there, I was spending a lot more than a subscription fee, and the worst part was that I got used to it. Aaaaand even worst, some of those games were starting to feel like a chore, but the desire to keep up just made me keep paying, completing passes, and moving on to the next one.
So, I stopped all the passes everywhere and got Dawntrail along with a subscription and dude, what a blast!
I had free time this month, so I moved through post Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers, and I loved every second of it. Dungeons with NPCs helped me catch up much faster since I only had to queue for a few missions, and it gave me a chance to get used to my class again, even when it doesn't feel like my class anymore sadly (Summoner). I even went back to watching guides for Primal fights so I wouldn't mess up like in the old times.
I'm enjoying every bit of the story, the characters, and the world building.
And the fashion! I don't remember the last time I enjoyed fashion this much in a game. After I catch up on content, I can't wait to farm fashion pieces from dungeons and side content, which brings me to the next part... PvP.
Even when I played before, I never tried PvP. The only thing I kept hearing back then was that it felt like bad side content, like an afterthought, so I ignored it. But this time, I looked at those PvP fashion sets and was like I need them!!!. So, I tried PvP. And man, I love it! So far, I've only played Frontline, but I'm having a blast. Great XP, awesome fashion sets, and it's just a great time, at least for me that like pvp a lot on games.
So now, I'm having fun like I haven't had in a long time in any other online game. I'm actually spending less, even with the subscription. Since I'm having so much fun, I realized all those other games felt like a chore and I was just stuck in a cycle of spending on small microtransactions and passes that added up to a lot more than I thought.
To finish this, I wanted to say thank you to the community, for helping carry noobs like me through trials, and for showing the kind of joy that makes outsiders like me want to share in these experiences. You don't know how much a community like this means until you move to other online games.
So thank you for read this random long (apologize for that, and any grammar stuff, english is not my first language) post. And I hope it helps people that maybe is doubting on playing or not, for maybe the same reasons, to give the game a try.
