For background context, I've been a Final Fantasy fan for practically my entire life. My first RPG ever was FFIII on snes (which I know is actually FFVI) when I was roughly 7yo. My cousin helped me beat the entire game over the course of a week, and that spawned my love for the genre and the franchise leading into my entire life. I've played nearly every FF game. As a preteen and into my teens, I played an incredibly unhealthy amount of FF11, and that's been the only MMO I've ever spent time in (touched guild wars 1 and 2 with a friend but just the free trials I think.) I've been wanting to play FF14 since release day, but couldn't afford the monthly sub at the time. Actually made a character during the big free trial on ps4 and then never booted it again because of life being busy and the game feeling daunting.
But here we are, many years later, and I'm really thinking I want to play finally...
I work roughly 60hrs a week, have a wife and multiple children, and get AT MOST 10hrs a week to game. I'm currently playing other games (I strictly stick to single-player story based games) but would like to be able to occasionally set aside time to play FF14.
Is it feasible to play as a solo player, and be able to actually get anything out of this game if my average gaming session is only around 20-40min, and I'm only playing once or twice a week? Are there quests that are short enough, or have saves/checkpoints where I could log out and resume later in the night or the following day? Or will I end up longing for something I just won't be able to do?
I'd hate to try and get started in the game, put in time to get things going, and then realize I need to be setting aside several hours at a time for mandatory long quests or just never progressing because of needing to back out of things mid quest?
I really do want to get into and love this game, but I worry I'd end up being disappointed by not having the time to really enjoy it and experience the story.
Thanks for any advice anyone could give me.
(I would plan on playing practically full solo since I don't have any friends who actively play and trying to schedule with a group probably just wouldn't work with where I'm at in life)
Edit: Getting a ton of replies and can't respond to everyone immediately, so thank you to everyone encouraging me to try it out at my own pace. I'm downloading on ps5 right now and will definitely try the trial at least for a few days to see if it suits me I can see why people are always praising the FF14 community. Everyone here obviously loves the game and has been super kind and informative already. Looking forward to finally giving this a shot! You guys rock
